Carpet installation must be properly planned, estimated, and coordinated. The installation plan should include accurate measurements, indicate seam placement, and detail areas requiring special considerations such as unusual room shapes, closets, borders, etc.<\/p>

Installation specifiers<\/strong><\/p>

Provide drawings with the approved location of seams, edge moldings, carpet direction, and accessories (adhesives, cushion, etc.).<\/p>

General contractor<\/strong><\/p>

Provide an appropriate surface upon which to install carpet, including confirmation of concrete moisture and alkali conditions, cleanliness, surface quality, and floor levelness. The contractor must also set appropriate room temperatures (65 to 95 degrees) 48 hours prior to installation and provide ventilation during and 48 to 72 hours after installation.<\/p>

Installation contractor<\/strong><\/p>

The installation contractor must use qualified labor and specified tools and accessories; provide accuracy of measurement; and coordinate with the general contractor on all applicable details including the installation date and material delivery, storage, security, and insurance.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Stretch-in Installation<\/h5>\n\nAn installer may wish to utilize the stretch-in method to:\n
    \n \t
  • Provide enhanced underfoot comfort and acoustical properties (i.e., higher noise reduction coefficients and higher impact noise ratings) when installed with a separate cushion<\/li>\n \t
  • Increase thermal insulation (R-value)<\/li>\n \t
  • Use over floors that are unsuitable for glue-down<\/li>\n \t
  • Make corrective measures, such as seam repair, easier to perform<\/li>\n \t
  • Decrease removal costs (as compared to removal of an adhered installation)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nStretch-in installations should be avoided in the following cases:\n
      \n \t
    • On ramps and inclines<\/li>\n \t
    • Where office systems furniture and demountable partitions are utilized<\/li>\n \t
    • Where heavy rolling traffic is likely<\/li>\n \t
    • Where there is excessive humidity<\/li>\n \t
    • When carpet has a unitary backing or other backing systems designed only for glue-down installation<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>
      Direct Glue-down Installation<\/h5>\n

      • Suitable for rolling traffic and ramp areas<\/li>\n \t
      • Seams are durable since there is no vertical flexing<\/li>\n \t
      • Minimized buckling in buildings that have HVAC systems turned off for extended periods of time<\/li>\n \t

      • Virtually eliminates incidences of seam peaking<\/li>\n \t
      • No restrictions on area size<\/li>\n \t
